Demand generation breaks when it is treated as a campaign instead of an engine. Campaigns start and stop. An engine has a fuel source, a conversion path, and a maintenance schedule.
Start with evidence, not a TAM slide. The ICP should come from closed-won notes, lost-deal reasons, and the language buyers use in public. If you cannot point to those sources, you are guessing at volume.
Build one motion until it is boring. A single outbound sequence that a principal can run, or a single paid path with a landing page that states the offer, will teach more than four half-built channels. Volume is a privilege the motion earns.
Instrument the path you actually have. Inquiry, scope, work, and a closed book are enough stages for a small operating company. Do not copy an enterprise funnel onto a one-principal shop and then wonder why the stages stay empty.
Protect deliverability, creative, and follow-up as operations, not inspiration. Lists rot. Pages drift. Replies die in inboxes. The engine is the cadence that catches those failures every week.
When the parent takes demand-generation work through Revenuarchitects, that is the standard: an operating system first, then volume. Independent brands still face their own customers. The books still close here.
